Welcome to Apagio, our family run, traditional, taverna situated just a few minutes walk from Poros Harbour. We serve only freshly prepared, traditional home made Greek food.. Both Spiros and Liz seek out the freshest ingredients from local sources everyday. Each morning Spiros can be seen leaving the island in his small fishing boat to find the day’s special catch ready for serving later in the taverna. Not to be outdone, Liz (season permitting) is often to be seen, out and about gathering local herbs to enhance her creative dishes.

It is our pleasure to serve you a complimentary Ouzo which you can sip while making your selection of culinary delights. During the long, balmy, summer nights you can sit in the delightful garden situated in a secluded area behind the taverna, which seats 40 (don’t forget the camera!), while the cooler evenings of spring and early autumn our indoor dining area, with it’s many antiques and paintigs will be the subject of much comment. If you are a winter visitor, it is here that you will sit, in front of a roaring log fire, enjoying the company of the locals. This area can seat 70.

Why not try a selection of mixed ‘meze’ for starters? Don’t be afraid, either, to try the local wine from the barrel. It really is remarkably good.

The fresh fish caught daily is the main attraction for many of the diners who frequent Apagio on a regular basis.

If you prefer meat then you will not be disappointed. Liz will have prepared several of her own oven-baked dishes, the receipes for which have been handed down through generations and frequently accompanied by one of her legendry sauces or you can make your selection from one of the mouth-watering dishes cooked on the grill.

Vegetarians have not been overlooked and there is always an adequate selection of suitable dishes.

Those who have already abandoned any thought of going home without just a tiny weight increase will find themselves easily persuaded to try one the interesting desserts before finishing with coffee and a Metaxa brandy. Often, Spiros will sit and play his guitar. Other local musicians will sometimes join him.

We are happy to take telephone bookings, Taxi drivers know where we are and if you are approaching on foot turn at the little cigarette/newspaper shop (opposite the navy base). You will find us, just over the brow of the hill, on the left hand side of the road.
